Okay so I know I'm like a month late on this but my writing process is majorly slow (shameful ik), but I still think this is important. Last month I had the pleasure of attending and photographing this season's Red Runway Fashion Show and let me just say being back on this side of the lens was a relief.
First a little background. Red Runway is a platform for aspiring models to gain experience as well as for upcoming and known designers to display their work. But don't get it twisted there aren't any restrictions to join the team, you just need to be able to model, and they'd do all they can to help you get there. I've had the experience of being a model of their runway at just 5ft.2in tall (give or take an inch...I'd rather you give though) and it's something that builds your confidence but can also give your nerves a good workout if you're shy.
I had a friend going through the recent cycle of training, so I took it as an opportunity to brush up on my runway photography. Photographing the show was a completely different experience from walking down the runway. For one, there aren't any practice days or casting shows; no hoping at least one designer picks you and no butt cheeks outside. I definitely don't miss the latter. The first show I photographed was the 2015 November show in South Trinidad, held at Naparima College, the photos are posted right here. This show was held at Bishop Anstey High School East, it showcased 150 models and 22 designers.
Now let me tell you modeling isn't easy, even at the beginner level, you'd never think that walking in a straight line would be so difficult, while sober, just add in a pair of 6in heels and a crowd and you'd know. It's definitely a learning experience and one I'd gladly do again. Not enough credit goes to the models, first-timers, and veterans alike; so my post is for them. My Facebook album of the show is organized by model, not in any particular order, and not to intentionally exclude anyone. It's just that 2000+ images are a lot to get through on a busy schedule (more shamefulness).
If you follow me on Instagram then you've already seen some of the photos from that night, but if you don't follow me you should go do that now :D (@lum.works). So without further ado, here are more of my runway loves.
